The Mountain West Hockey League (MWHL) suspended the 2019-2020 season in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. The MWHL is following mandates of health experts and local authorities in each of its cities.
According to MWHL Commissioner Thomas Brown, “MWHL clubs travel long distances for games, relying mainly on ground transportation with many stops along the way for food, fuel, and lodging that may put players and the public at risk of virus spread. In addition, MWHL clubs share locker rooms and facilities at their practice rinks and game arenas with other teams and the public. These factors, as well as the risk posed to fans who attend games make suspension of the season the safest course of action for the league, its clubs, players, officials, sponsors, and fans.”
The MWHL will continue to monitor all the appropriate medical advice, and will encourage players and other members of the MWHL community to take all reasonable precautions — including by self-quarantine, where appropriate. Our goal is to resume play as soon as it is appropriate and prudent.
In the meantime, MWHL clubs and their personnel shall not meet in-person, practice on-ice, or workout together during the suspension period.
Production of MWHL Network programming including live game coverage and studio content has been suspended. Production will resume after protocols for ensuring the safety of crew members have been developed.
The MWHL is a Senior A minor hockey league with clubs spanning the western United States. The league was founded in 2012. The MWHL and its media division, MWHL Network, are operated by WebFactorE LLC.
