Jack Kim was the first Asian to play in the Mountain West Hockey League. He grew up in Seoul, South Korea where he earned a spot on the national team and played professionally in Asia League Ice Hockey.
Jack came to America where he had a tryout with the Ontario Reign in 2010. He eventually signed with the Las Vegas Hookers of the MWHL in 2012. His advanced skating skill, strong puck handling, and unorthodox style of play confounded American opponents who frequently resorted to fouling in an attempt to stop him. He persevered and was named to the MWHL All Star team in his first season.
This episode of the MWHL Diversity Series will follow Jack’s hockey journey from Korea to America.
