The Mountain West Hockey League welcomed three new clubs into the league for the start of the 2019-2020 season. The new clubs include Santa Rosa Growlers, Utah County Blizzard, and Forth Worth Barracuda.
Santa Rosa Growlers will be based at Snoopy’s Home Ice in Santa Rosa, California. The Growlers are expected to build a rivalry with nearby Norcal Ice Raiders.
Utah County Blizzard will be based at Peaks Ice Arena in Provo, Utah. The Blizzard are the fifth attempt by Utah clubs to build a sustainable presence in the MWHL. They are preceded by Park City and three incarnations of Salt Lake City. The Blizzard are expected to serve as a geographic bridge between the league’s clubs in Colorado and Nevada.
The Fort Worth Barracuda will be based at Children’s Health Star Center in Mansfield, Texas. The Barracuda are the MWHL’s second Texas club, joining the Dallas-based Texas Titans. Both Texas clubs will play schedules that include the MWHL’s Colorado clubs.
