SKATES stay in shape

After battling into playoff position in February, the San Diego Skates saw their ambitions cut short when the Covid-19 pandemic forced the MWHL to suspend the season. With no plan to restart in time for the MWHL Cup playoffs this year, the Skates will have some time to plot their next assault on the league’s ultimate prize.

With all San Diego area ice rinks closed, Skates players have had to look for other ways to stay in shape. While some have the luxury of home gym equipment, most have been taking advantage of San Diego’s coast line to run on the beach, swim, and surf – all activities that can still be done under lock-down. Some, like captain Lucien Perreault, have managed to continue skating – on roller blades.

One thing is certain, when the MWHL resumes play, the Skates will return hungry for a third MWHL Cup.
